SetPoint Medical

Introducing SetPoint Therapy, a new treatment option for people living with Rheumatoid Arthritis.

Pacific Arthritis now offers neuroimmune modulation, an approach that engages neural pathways to help regulate the immune system. The SetPoint System uses a small, rechargeable neurostimulator implanted on the left vagus nerve, sending targeted electrical signals to help manage RA.

This device-based approach supports the body’s own defenses by triggering natural anti-inflammatory immune responses. In RA, these pathways are believed to function poorly, leading to the chronic inflammation that drives the disease. For some patients, SetPoint Therapy may offer a way to manage RA without relying on additional medication. Data from the clinical trial that supported FDA approval showed that 75% of participants did not need to add a biologic or JAK inhibitor within one year.

Getting started with SetPoint Therapy begins with a conversation between you and your rheumatologist about whether this approach fits your treatment goals. If you and your provider move forward, you’ll be referred to a surgeon who specializes in placing the SetPoint implant.

Before the procedure, your surgeon will conduct a pre-operative consultation to confirm you’re a good candidate. Your insurance carrier will handle pre-authorization, and the surgical facility can give you an estimate of out-of-pocket costs at that point. The implant itself is placed during a brief outpatient procedure, typically 60 to 90 minutes, so you’ll go home the same day and can return to normal activities the next day.

Roughly two weeks after implantation, you’ll meet with your rheumatologist to turn on the device and fine-tune the stimulation level for comfort. From there, treatment runs automatically: a 60-second session each day, with only a few minutes of weekly charging required on your end. Your rheumatologist remains involved in your ongoing RA care and can adjust the therapy settings at future visits as needed.
